I'm the Translator by Rosana Yepes

This week, I am the translator. Although it seems that the translator is the work easier. I think that I have a great responsibility, because I have had to summarize the activity of this week in only 5 words. So, it requires good criteria. Among other many things we have learned, I have been able to summarize this activity in these 5 words:
Good presentation. A presentation is a useful tool to explain a topic. However, it is not too easy doing it well. To it would be attractive, interesting, striking, etc. it must have the correct colors, size, pictures, etc. it must be very visual, simple, innovative, creative and above all adapted according to the audience.
Creativity. Creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness. Between these characteristics we find quality, exclusivity and originality. It must be trained since children. For this reason, schools should encourage its development with actions where children can express their art´s love, their feelings freely, without any fear or modesty.
Free Culture. When we mention free culture, it means how the access to culture would be. It should be free, fast, and easy. Learning and knowing neither cost neither many nor it would be difficult giving it. Nowadays, it exits some tools which let this free access. The example clearer is Internet, but in particular, we have learned one new this week: Creative Commons licenses.
Creative Commons (CC). Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that it allows to use and to share both creativity and knowledge through copyright licenses, which the author choose the use that people can do with it depending on authors had chosen before. There are different kinds of licenses that determine the use that you can do.
Recycle. Everything we have learned, we have expressed in a presentation by the topic: Recycling. Recycle consists on taking old materials and break them down, so that they can be used to create new and useful again. Maybe it seems boring. However, we can find several funny uses, activities, etc. that can develop your creativity, your artistic live, and so on. So at the same time that you are protecting the environment, you are learning and developing funny things... ALL ARE ADVANTAGES!

Well, this has been my work as translator. I have to say this week has been more relax because we have had a week to reform our blog, and to be honest, we needed it. Now, we have the clear ideas, know more or less all functions of each role, we have well structured our blog, so we have already got the correct direction to carry out this subject. Although, guiding this subject has been a bit hard, now we have the better wishes and hope to pass this subject successfully.

The return of Twitter

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/2284174758/v65oai7fxn47qv9nectx.png

Since we started the course we had some problems with twitter, They canceled the account and  we had to write twitter messages to be sent back to us, but seeing the problems we had with the old account have decided to create a new one. Despite the problems we have had and  we have lost many of the twits that we had put forward we are excited and looking forward to our new Twitter account @brainstormingUM  !!!!!!!!!!!

The Analyst by Rocío Ramón Belmonte

This week my role was to be the analyst, if I start to reflect on the work done throughout this week , the first thing I think about is the pressure that we have had up to try to make things right , however as a result we have obtained many creative ideas, we have improved the blog and design, we have much more organized and attractive. With regard to my group work my colleagues are very effective and efficient doing their job and give all you can make. This work will help us to learn and of course to get a good grade. For example, the star of this week my mate Feli which in my opinion has done a great job but has become a little nervous when she was presenting , it seems that her work has been magnificent because she worked hard on it, the job was aimed at children of the age of her daughter and thanks to the images and photo with her explanation and emphasis I think she has achieved what the group  was intending. Cristian this week was the journalist with Raquel but apart from doing their work they  had helped a bit to Maria our facilitator blog this week , Maria also has done well and all have had outstanding performance at all times , as the other fellow was a more personal work. The implications of her work are good and hope we continue to strive every day to achieve the goals of each week.
What was the best part of the activity?
The major part of the activity this week has been for some aesthetically improved blog that has helped us to organize many major and see things more clearly, thanks to the sharing of ideas and especially Cristian is that more work is done . It was the best because it is a small step that can make us all the task.
What was the worst?
The worst thing was the lack of communication in relation to other activities. Also one of the biggest problems has been to reference the images and we did not have to clear that each image or each slide but our companion Feli, the star this week has managed to correct that mistake and have done great.
What was the best moment of the week ( group work ) ?
The best time was after the presentation of our star, to see that we have done well and we've improved during these weeks, and that fact motivated the whole team. I think we have been more pleased to see that things were done fine.
What was the worst?
The worst moment was when our twitter was eliminated for the second time, we have to make a new one and we lost all the info we have twitted. And when we have to choose theme for the presentation, because there were plenty of fantastic topics to choose. Also changing the roles every week is stressing. keep in mind that each week we continue working with a new role that we had never before made.
What have you learned ?
We have learned to work together, to talk, to organize , to strive more and a little more. Joint work on how to make a slideshare also how to prepare a presentation for children in this case about recycling, using creative commons . Also on the issues raised by our colleagues from other groups. In short this week has been rewarding in terms of learning.

What is needed to preserve , as a group for the next few weeks ?
As a group we must follow the example of the efforts of many of our colleagues about their creativity and good intentions.
What needs to improve , as a group for the next few weeks ?
From here on we must listen each other, the effort is the same for all I try to work every day and looking forward to become better working in groups.
How this has been related to other content in the course and in the race?
Of course , along the course and all the grade we need to reference all the things we use, pictures , articles , news , web pages . It is also important presentations for children as our race is about that, to explain to children that they understand and have a good time learning. It also serves to take away the shame when we have to talk in public as well as practice and other subjects and real life.
There is no obvious social connection of this content ( news, politics , etc)?

Yes , because first of all you need to know how to raise any issue of public interest, in our case recycling, to children, because they are the future and need to be informed and prepared to be good citizens and care for our planet, they also need to become persons with ethics and high values in life.

Curator-farmer role by Fernando Tortosa Cutillas

At first none of us knew what a "pearltree" was, so we had to explore and investigate about it and how it works. But now, we have been using "pearltrees" for three weeks and we can say that it is a great way of learn by making easier the search of information.
The task this week was about Free resources, Creative commons licences and how to make good presentations with slides. We had to create two slides presentations and to upload them to "slideshare", one about Creative commons licences and another about tips for making a good presentation.
All the information, photos, videos and audios must be Creative commons licenced so this week the search of information was a little more difficult than the previous weeks but finally we had found a great amount of photos and also a song that we have used in our presentations called "One Big Holiday - My Morning Jacket" that were Creative common licenced.
My job as curator-farmer was to collect all the links of the information we had used, to organize them and to put them into APA Style.
I add here the link of the new pearltree section called "Telling Stories: Free resources and visual presentations."

Star By Feli Travieso Pérez

TPACK TEACHING ( CONTENT, PEDAGOGY, TECHNOLOGY)

A good teacher is the one that when takes a content from the C.V, is able to study the way of how to transmit it, in a way to make it appealing for the student. That is called PEDAGOGY. That skill not only requires long experience, teachers also should be willing to become good professionals as they have to be prompt to teach and learn from students.
When I was assigned the Star role, the first though that came into my mind was, how to make a dull content such as recycling, attractive to my future 6-year-old students.
But first I went to the compulsory and recommended pages I had to read before creating my own presentation, and I have found quite interesting tips:
·      Raising the issue objectively.
·      Tell what normative gap is intended to be alleviated.
·      Design a schedule to follow.
·      Making clear our objective.
·      Simple explanation.
·      To know the audience composition.
·      To be able to connect to the audience emotionally.
·      To set up good stories able to emotionally awake the audience.
·      Being passionate, gesturing, asking questions to avoid silence.
·      To passing them your passion and joy.
·      To create a topic and memorize it.
·      Before the presentation, be prompt to prepare it.
·      Exposing your topic loud and clear, trespassing the audience with your look.
·      To close the topic with a good conclusion.
·      And a good phrase to close your exposition.
As a future teacher, and having in mind that my audience were going to be 6 year old children I wanted to add all the tips, but in a creative way, and even though there was a great tip of how to create good slides in order not to distract your audience, I took some advices and discarded others.
The ones I have considered:
·      Good quality images.
·      Not to write long phrases on it.
·      Being accurate with words.
·      Simple.
·      Using the colour well.
The ones I have discarded:
·      They should not be gaudy. Some of them were.
·      I should not distract the audience with lots of images. I did.
·      The transmitter should not be on the second level. I was.
Why did I take a different path?
My audience were not going to be adults, on the contrary they were going to be children. I believe that having great and colourful images, help children to evolve their cognitivism  in different aspects.
I have distracted them with fantastic images, because I wanted to motivate them, with a topic like recycling, I wanted them to feel the teacher passion.
And teacher has to interacting with them I went on to the second position, letting images talk on my behalf, because I wanted them to be the stars.
Finally music should be compulsory in primary education, to inspire our children, that was the reason for me to play a stretch of music.
WHAT STEPS DID I TAKE TO FIND GREAT Creative Commons IMAGES?
I went on to the Flicker page and searched creative recycling for all ages, and after selecting a wide variety of them, I have only taken the ones that could match accordingly with my presentation.
But I wanted to thank every single author, so that I have registered in Yahoo images with the nickname of Sianita41. I did it with every picture, because is a nice way to let them know that they are doing something great.
After that I started to create my presentation. I have really though that it was going to be easier, but it wasn’t. Creating simple and touching tests was a challenge and more difficult that I believed, it took me time and consideration to think on the way to make the subject interesting. But when you are motivated there are not mountains high enough. SO I DID IT. I feel proud of the presentation and now I do know that my aspirations to be a good teacher are becoming true.
Frustrations:
I will make a constructive criticism. I have been preparing the presentation during three days. I tried to perform well because one of my weakest points is that when I have to expose in front of a big audience, I get very NERVOUS, and as hard as I always try I am not able to overcome this.
For that reason, I trained a lot home, in order to be confident. But what happened when I came into the class? I found out that there were not remote control, and that would not help me at all. The other fact is that sound did not work and even though I could foresee the problem and I brought my laptop, the presentation was not as successful as I have expected.
Therefore my proposal is that It would not be a bad idea that before presentation started for all groups, we all should make sure as professional that we are to talk to the teacher asking her to supply us with gadgets, such as the remote. I am sure that next time if we all collaborate we will succeed.
The "Cold Play" song has been replaced by "One Big Holiday - My Morning Jacket" that were Creative common licenced.

Here you have the slides and the written presentation.
Have a look!!
ORAL PRESENTATION

Intro: Good morning everyone!!
I was counting the days to welcome you to the … subject of..citizenship  education …. And I’m excited that all of you are here today.
In these days, our planet is changing very fast, we humans consume more than we should, and our planet begins to look like a factory of grey smoke.
We have a fantastic and unique world! What can we do to avoid its deterioration? Can’t we teach also adults to take care of the ecosystem?

Start: Recycling is a good way to star today.
What is recycling? It is when you take old materials and break them down, so that they can be used to create new material.
Some facts… Where does trash go? Landfills.
· Glass can be broken down and 70% of it, when melted can be recycled.
· Metal is recycled by melting it into new blogs called ingots, one of them is made of 1.6 millions of cans!! That is a lot of soda.
· Paper when mixed with water can be recycled up to 7 times, as fibbers start to break down.
· Plastic is hard to recycle when mixed. Often involves high-energy chemical process.
Recycling… sounds pretty boring, doesn’t it?

Change – Body:  So, let’s talk about artistic recycling!
There is no age to start being creative, nor an age to stop being it.
(I’m sure all of you are very creative and you can help many adults on being inspired again… and follow the three R’s REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
My dear kids, there are plenty of discarded materials around that can be collected and transformed to new objects.
Glass can be turned on to a fantastic light sculpture.
We can make a nice key holder from metal.
To make a nice puppet using toilet paper
Even a dress can be done with paper!
Plastic bottles (difficult to recycle) used as flowerpots.
You can also create nice sculptures with reused material; some famous artists are already doing it and living on it.
And do you know it is even possible to build a very nice house from discarded material???

RECYCLING IS A SMASHING IDEA KIDS, NEVER REFUSE TO REUSE.

Now, I have a new question for you:  What could we achieve if we all were able to get all these following ideas together?

GOOD HABITS
RESOURCES
EXPRESSION
ART
TEAM WORK
ENVIRONMENT
RECYCLING

ECOLOGY
CREATIVITY
OPTIMISM

End: When we finish this course, if we are able to blend all this terms you will become the artists, the architects, the magician of the future, the guardians of our planet starting to create from simple to complex to decorate our world.
Changing the world is in your hands.
Let's create this recycling workshop together!
I truly believe that together we CAN make the difference.
START SMALL, THINK BIG.

Journalist Task 2. -  Following the net...

Here, we have found some blogs very interesting where explain how use slideshare at education, as a student, at the university/school… Personally speaking, for our degree it could be useful.

On the other hand we can find that our classmates, “Give me 7”, have posted to their blog a video very interesting about “STEVE JOB´S IPHONE KEYNOTE” that is really amazing. I recommend to every one watch this video. And congratulations to our classmates for having this fantastic good idea putting this video as an example of slideshare.  We hope you have fun with this video!
